Morphosis Architects’ Casablanca Finance City Tower: A New Icon for Morocco’s Economic Prosperity

Global architecture firm Morphosis designed the Casablanca Finance City Tower, the first project to be realized in the newly-established Casablanca Finance City (CFC) in Morocco. The 25-story tower, completed in 2019, symbolizes Morocco’s vision for the future and sets a new standard for future projects in the region and beyond. The tower, which meets all LEED Gold requirements of the World Green Building Council, features a brise-soleil system that regulates natural light, air, and temperatures internally, while offering unprecedented views of the city, ocean, and the iconic Hassan II Mosque. The building also engages the lower urban landscape with exterior public programming that invites the community into adjacent public spaces.

Herreros Arquitectos’ Mixed-Use Building Proposal in Casablanca, Morocco

Herreros Arquitectos has unveiled their latest project, a mixed-use building in Casablanca, Morocco. The building includes housing, commercial, and athletic spaces and features a permeable facade that responds to the climate. The design draws inspiration from traditional geometric codes common in the region, and the project was featured in the Moroccan Pavilion at the 2014 Venice Biennale. The building is designed to offer a variety of dwelling types and sizes, complemented by commercial premises, a swimming pool, and a gymnasium for local residents. The permeable facade incorporates natural elements and a traditional decorative finish in latticework reinterpreted in contemporary geometry.

• Maison Brummell Majorelle: A New Boutique Hotel in Marrakech – Maison Brummell Majorelle is a new boutique hotel in Marrakech that draws inspiration from the local vernacular while creating a unique and playful contemporary language. The hotel features lush vegetation and running water, providing an oasis-like atmosphere for guests. The exterior is made up of various plaster finishes, handmade tiles, and local terrazzo, with highlights of brass denoting transitions between various areas.
• Morocco Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai Showcases Traditional Design and Construction Techniques – The Morocco Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, designed by OUALALOU+CHOI, features traditional Moroccan design and construction techniques in a contemporary setting, with a 4000 m² rammed earth facade, 14 exhibition spaces, a restaurant, tea room, event space, and more. After the Expo, the Pavilion will be converted into a housing complex.
• Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech designed by Studio KO opens its doors – The Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech, designed by Studio KO, has opened its doors and features a permanent exhibition space, temporary exhibition space, auditorium, bookshop, café-restaurant, and research library.
